Let me start off with praise for Bill Beverly for a really great job on his first novel. I really enjoyed this different type of a coming-of-age story.
Beverly did an excellent job describing The Boxes, the slums, etc. The writing in the beginning of the book really had me feel that I was in East's world, this did die down for me a bit when his traveling began. At this point it was hard for me to stay interested since it lacked the intensity that it previously had, and continued to dip throughout the entire book.
The characters are well developed and I felt that it was easy as a reader to relate to them and their present struggles. I really enjoyed seeing how they worked through some.
Overall it was an interesting read, and I would recommend to others who are interested in crime novels. It did have slower areas that may be difficult to read through for those readers who enjoy high intensity crime reads, but it is a rather interesting a different story.
