Rules of Attraction (Perfect Chemistry #2)
I was so excited to read this book and was really let down.
It starts off with Alex (read Perfect Chemistry #1) and his younger brother Carlos. Carlos has just moved to Colorado to live with Alex after moving there from Mexico..(read my PC#1 review or the book to know what happened with that situation).
Carlos is super rebellious and acts pissed off the entire book because his life isn't fair. He hates the relationship between his brother and Brittany(PC#1). After getting involved with the wrong crowd at school and getting in trouble with Alex, Carlos coincidentally meets Kiara. The "Professors" daughter whom Alex knows through the body shop he works at. Kiara goes to the same high school that Carlos is going to attend so Alex mentions it to her so she can show him around. (sound familiar?) Only difference from PC #1 is that Kiara is an "weird girl" with a stutter who isn't the popular blonde that Brittany was in her story.
Sorry getting back on topic..
Carlos spends the majority of the book antagonizing Kiara and being afraid of his feelings towards her, (sound familiar again?!), and hangs out with the popular slut Madison once at a party, which Kiara brings up constantly when she gets pissed at Carlos. Because of that party Carlos is soon busted with drugs found in his locker at school. He soon ends up with a target on his back due to his gang ties he had in Mexico that ended up following him up to Colorado. With him being charged with drug possession and the zero tolerance policy at the school Carlos has to attend a special program at school and can no longer live with Alex since Alex lives in student housing for his University. The Professor opens his home to Carlos which makes the relationship with Kiara grow. (I don't know who would let some random rebellious child into their home even though they don't really know him but okay..)
Anyways, they eventually fall in love with each other even though Carlos has told him about his gang ties back in Mexico. She tells his she won't be with him if he is a gang member but then Carlos (doing his own thing trying to maintain his rebellious image) is eventually jumped into some wannabe gang, which in my opinion happened so randomly. He joins the gang of the people who had planted the drugs in his locker, but like in PC #1 the gang leader has an ulterior motive behind his joining.
Then the rest of the story just rushes through to them facing the gang like Alex did. BUT all of a sudden Kiara's dad has ties to the DEA and decides to go with Alex to save him from the gang?!
Yeah.. It happens..
Of course good defeats evil, and Kiara and Carlos fall in love at the end.
Overall it was MEH. The story line was almost too identical to PC #1, and the story dragged so long through the middle and rushed the end for me.
BUUUUTT I still read Chain Reaction (Perfect Chemistry #3). I will be posting my reviews for book 1 and 3 soon. (:
